In Norse mythology, Freya is the goddess of fertility and harvest, love, beauty, war, witchcraft, and also as the goddess of the Vans. In the Germanic languages, Friday is named after her. Her husband was Óðr, but he had gone on a long journey, and Freya wept over him with tears of red gold. Freya falls in battle at the side of Odin and is to die only a moment before Odin.

Freya owns a cat-drawn carriage, a beautiful necklace of Brísingamen, which Loki stole from her, a boar Hildisvín with golden bristles, and a falcon (or heron) robe that allows her to transform into a bird.

On the back of the amulet is the Triquetra symbol. Triquetra means triangle and represents inseparable elements for the Celts. In addition, the gate is a symbol of life and death, past and future, or body and soul. For Christians, it means the Holy Trinity.
